Tiny Heads with Giant Grins
On average, I finish a digital caricature in about 5 to 6 minutes. For a perfectionist like me, that’s not a lot of time. So, when I’m asked to do a group drawing in my studio, I’m really thrilled that I can take my time and tweak it and make adjustments until I’m truly satisfied with the results.
This week, I’m working on a family drawing of fourteen people that will be given as an anniversary gift. As opposed to my normal method, I go a slightly less conventional route. The family has sent me photos of each person to be included in the sketch. I draw each member separately, then I am able to piece them all together like a jigsaw puzzle, until they all fit just right. This way, I’m able to adjust proportion, shading, and placement for each person individually and not have to start fresh if something doesn’t seem right.
