In keeping with the tradition of my new retro explorations, I submit to you my latest creation in this new direction.

I have a lot of exciting ideas with this concept and I look forward to sharing this vision with you.

Angie, this is really awesome, but I have to ask, did you create the background on your own? and if so how? Thanks! =) I too have been intrigued by retro styles and actually designed my older avatar as one. I even have a book with retro styles in it by a ‘Blair’ very interesting indeed. I use stocks from Deviant Art in my retro background that are credit free. Thanks again!

Thanks Zach. Inspiration for art and design can come from many different places, from wallpaper to a photograph you saw to a pattern of leaves. Start by observing the world around you.

Yes, I heard about Mary Blair’s Retro style.

With you learning and wanting to know all about caricatures, I think you it would be best for you to focus on the structure of developing face anatomy, (not so much on backgrounds). I believe a good start is to try drawing portraits. Start by drawing freehand with a pencil(no tracing) either from a magazine or book and see how close you can match a drawing of someone’s face. Try shading and rendering, as well.

Even Louis Armstrong had to learn sheet music before he could know enough to improvise while live on stage.

thank you for that amazing tip! I have to ask again though, was this created in painter with a scratchboard tool? However it seems to my eye like photoshop work judging by the feel it gives me. Thanks again! I shall have to submerge slightly into portraits. I completely understand if you don’t feel comfortable telling me, put just random curiousity thanks again!
