When Apple announced the iPad at the beginning of the year, my husband and I knew immediately that this was going to be a device that would change how people use computers. We both blogged about it at the time and waited until it’s release.

The iPad is many things to many people. For artists, it has the potential to be a digital canvas that can be carried around all the time.

On Saturday, I drew my first iPad Caricatures at the device’s launch. After I posted pictures here and on Facebook, I was swarmed with emails, Facebook messages, and phone calls, about what it’s like and how well it works.

Well, I plan on writing a very in depth tutorial/review for a publication (can’t talk about that right now). This will go into deeper comparisons between the iPad and Cintiq, comparisons of brushes, and so on.

But in the meantime, I thought I’d do a quick demonstration of what I did at the iPad’s launch. Keep in mind that I’ve still only had this brand new tool for a few days.

Let me know what you think!

P.S. No, I’m not selling my Cintiq just yet! I see this as an ADDITION to, not a replacement for, the Cintiq. But I’m going to LOVE drawing with the iPad and I think it’s going to a runaway hit with artists.

    Angie,
Your demo is great. Very concise and easy to follow. I just got my first mac- pro-g-4
I wish I had seen this demo first. I probally would have just bought the i-pad instead. I have a full version of photo-shop on it but its way over my head right now. My girlfriend is giving me classes on layers and what not with the mac. I bought it used as she has gone on to the snow leopard and this is one generation b4.
I have a bamboo pad. Any hints about drawing caricatures and in photoshop for illustrations?
I hope to make the gathering on the 15th.
    Best,
    Anthe

  5. Thanks for sharing your demo Angie, very very cool indeed…I’ll be checking it out when it’s launched in Australia

I still think the ipad is a waste of time.

  8. Angie says:

Well Pondulus, that is “your” thoughts. If you do not own an iPad, how could you make this kind of judgement call?

We own one and love it! This is NOT a waste to us at all and ONLY $499!

One cannot beat such a reasonable cost with today’s greatest revolutionary device!
