post Caricatures into the night!

June 27th, 2008

I type with my head nodding, as I didn’t get much sleep, since, into the wee hours of the morning I was drawing at a gig with three other good caricature artist friends.

I’ll only post a few drawings from last night, since I’ll probably doze off before finishing the post! *grin*

post My “Chips” Comic!

April 14th, 2008

Filed under: character design, characters, comic strips, comics, computer, storyboard — Angie @ 7:54 am

5+ years ago, I came up with a computer base comic idea and sketched out my character ideas and copyrighted them.
I then began working on some comic strips and story boards.
Last year I finally returned to work on my comics (with the little time I had from my extremely busy schedule), but I recently lost a few cartoons and strips when my Macbook crashed. Fortunately, I had sent some low rez files through my gmail to show family and friends, so I am upgrading my characters and strips, along with “making” time to work on my new strips and animation a little bit each week.
I thought it was time to “Show and Tell!”

The names of my characters are
JT (boy), Corky (pet ferret), Mona (female monitor), Dex (pointer), Sully (mouse), and Ike (icon).
I have 2 more characters that I am adding when I get into my storyboards and animation.

For now, I began uploading my strips on my website, but I will have more to come, as the weeks pass.

Here is a teaser.

post Silver’s Schoolism Course

March 18th, 2008

Filed under: character design, tutorial — Angie @ 7:26 am

Well, it’s been 9 weeks and my on-line classes with character designer, Stephen Silver, has come to an end, but my knowledge of drawing and designing has broadened and I look forward to practicing and focusing on all the new skills I have learned by taking Stephen Silver’s course!

I realize I have not posted much about my classes with Silver, because I think each individual who is interested in character design, should find out for themselves how valuable his classes really are, along with his personal critique, to help each individual grow.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I’ve learned from Silver’s design methods, his personal critiques, and all his years of experience and knowledge packaged into this 9 week course.
This course is so worth it! I highly recommend taking the time to sign up for Stephen Silver’s Course at
www.schoolism.com

My only regret during my 9 week course with Silver is that I wish I could have put more of my time and efforts within my homework assignments, but my schedule was out of control and soooooo busy.

Here is my final Fat Joe! I have yet to hear Silver’s critique on him, but I only had one day to work on this final project(still busy!). However, I did focus on all Silver’s advice that he had for improving my designing skills, so I’ll cross my fingers and hope for the best with my last assignment!
I can at least say I had so much fun with all the homework assignments, during these 9 weeks and that is what it is all about!

I DO want to thank my husband, Scott, for buying this wonderful Christmas present for me! A special BIG THANK YOU goes out to Stephen Silver for helping me improve my skills and knowledge for any future work with my Cartoon and Caricature business.

I scribbled out a fat character on paper this time, trying to work more with my mixed media.
It looks like he is wrapped in gauze. :)

I’m having such a busy week, but I am doing my best to keep up with my SS homework assignments. Here is “one” of my characters in the beginning developing stages.

post Dr Jeckyl/Mr Hyde

Filed under: character design — Angie @ 9:04 am

My second week with Silver was to design a Dr J & H of your own. I chose to create a 1960 Ivy League Student that transforms into a slovenly obese ale lover! :)

I actually learned something new this week with Silver’s 2nd assignment and received my personal critique on my Fat Joe design from Steve. The critique that I received was exactly what I expected of my work, too.

Even though criticism is hard to take for some, doesn’t it make one try so much harder? It does me!

I am only finished with my second week with Silver at Schoolism and I highly recommend anyone willing to learn character design to take this course. It is really worth it!
